Upbeat Italian Oi, spontaneous sounding, a band that will go down extremely well with all fans of old Italian Oi, without sounding like a cheap generic / heard-it-all-before copy.

Not the band we expected on Pure Impact at first, but they have been a great suprise as Italian bands are not amongst my favourites, but Calcio d'Inizio are a point aside. Catchy songs of well played Oi, in total 12 tracks which I like them all ! "Calcio D'Inizio", "Crocifisso ma non morto", "S. Piero", etc... shows that this is a band which deserves a place in your record collection. I recommend it !

Camden Town #15.

Violence #10.

Well, just to prove that nobody can ever bat .1000 is this piece of absolute shit from Pure Impact. I thought it would be hard to top the Italian Oi! mediocrity that was Porco 69, but oh wow I was proven wrong. You know the drill by now, the flavorless mid-tempo, four-chord “Oi! Against the World” type of crap that was out of date ten years ago, let alone now. I was bored to death two tracks into this thing, and it never relented on your poor reviewer, no interesting song structures, solos, samples, nothing. The one and only redeeming feature was the pidgin English song explanations that brought us such gems of wisdom as “This track represents how we have been victimized by the society and our hate for media” as well as the philosophical “We have to fight for our ideals, without compromises for no one”. Every single beaten to death Joe Hawkins and Co. theme is used and abused, from “hooliganism”, “the media” to “the kids on the street.” Then to top it all off is the real winner U.S.A. a Casa (USA GO HOME) about how we “invaded” their land following World War 2. Hmmm, seems like sour grapes Euro-trash talk to me, hey maybe they’re Mussolini fans though, especially since chromosome-challenged drummer Zap does bear a strong resemblance to him, post piano wire of course, mixed with the old Donkey Lips character from the old Nick “Salute Your Shorts” show. Hope the next time Russia/Germany rolls through the Continent, Calcio and gang don’t expect me to lift a finger for them, because I sure wouldn’t want to be an imperialist. What I have trouble believing after releasing pro-American stuff like Red, White and Blue, Across the Hudson and the monolithic Best Defense repress that Peter would even touch this epically horrendous band. It’s bands like this that rehash the same old crap again and again that have chained subculture music down and nearly killed it. Ugh, enough though cause I could go on forever and this thing was hardly worth any more effort. Avoid even touching it at all costs unless you’re breaking it and putting it out of its misery.

Last Watch

Calcio D’inizio started out in September 2000, but all of us came from Oi! or hardcore scene and had played in a lot of bands before. The original line-up was: Angelo (guitar and vocals), Pierpy (bass) and Zap (drums). After two months Teo joined and took over on bass, so Pierpy moved over to guitars so Angelo could concentrate on vocals.

The band's first gig was in January 2001 near Padova (the city where the drummer lives, the others live in Vicenza), with Woptime (HC from Turin), and N.F.R. (Oi! from Milan), which turned out to be very successful. In February the band went into the studio, which resulted in this "Al di sotto delli parti" album which came out on Pure Impact a year later.

From March to August everything was quiet and at the end of August the band hit the studio again to record another 7 tracks. While being in Mantova for the recording, the band played a gig with 2 punkrock bands from Vicenza and a band from Mantova, a gig which ended in a big brawl with some localarseholes.

In December, Calcio D'Inizio played Padova, once again with Woptime and Guastafeste from Milan, the gig went well, but after 10 or so songs into Calcio D’inizio's set, the police stopped the gig and Guastafeste never played. This gig also ended in a punch-up, with some punk friends of Guastafeste.
The band stresses that they have nothing against punks, but when provoked, you just have to fight back...

Now with the album out, the band is looking for more gigs to play in Italy and abroad, and they hope to have the new mini-CD released this summer sometime.

Cheers!!!
Zap and Calcio D’inizio.
